HELLO GUIZE ! Here are the details for JTS. Please help spread the word ! (:

We'll be treating all J2 seniors (those who were active members up till May) and any other grand seniors who want to join us (just drop me a word).

It's going to be held on 14th July (coming Thursday) which is half day. We'll be going to Ishimura @ Northpoint (Yishun), which is a steamboat + sushi buffet, $12.90nett per pax (J1s who are going, please bring money to pay because the money we previously collected does not include your share of food) :D The buffet lasts from 12-5 so we'll definitely have time to eat our fill :D

Meet at 12.15 latest in the school canteen because the place is only reserved for us if we arrive before 1.30. It's pretty small so we should try to hurry there otherwise there won't be any seats if we are late. Also, because it's a student deal, please do bring along your ezlink cards, otherwise you'll have to pay the adult price. Please please don't be late because we'll have to battle the crowds who are also going out of the school on half day and we really have to be on time. For those who have extra lessons/ other valid reasons for being late, please tell me, and I'll make necessary arrangements :D Also, please do inform me if you have last minute changes regarding attendance (like if you suddenly can make it/ cannot make it).

We've done really really well this time so here's to keeping up the high standards ! Let's aim to improve even further and maintain our double champs for interjc next year (: Remember to stretch regularly (Lih Maan has already sent a long sms expounding the benefits of stretching) and go for additional training if you have time (especially the guys!) especially now when blocks are over. The tkd room is almost always open after school everyday and everyone is free to go there to mug/ train, plus you can always alternate between mugging and training if either one becomes too boring.

Guidelines for Hwa Chong Taekwondo

Hi all! Here are some general guidelines for hctkd, please do try to follow them :)

Training

1. Training begins at 2.45pm SHARP every Wednesday and at 4 pm every Friday. You will be marked late if you arrive after the club has bowed to Mr Guna.

2. If you are late without a valid reason, you will be made to do PT after training as a form of punishment (e.g. 30 push-ups, 30 sit-ups and 30 burpees) so please try to be punctual!

3. If you have been marked late thrice, it will be considered as one day of absence.

4. Attendance will be marked at every official training and you will be marked absent should you be absent without a valid reason.

a. Do take note that the minimum requirement to take gradings and participate in competitions is an 80% attendance rate

5. Try to place shoes behind the stone chairs upon reporting

Attire

1. Everyone MUST wear full gi for training on Wednesdays

2. Everyone should wear half gi for training on Fridays

3. Proper hairstyles should be sported

4. Girls MUST wear an inner white shirt

Injury / Misconduct

1. Always do necessary stretchings before training

2. It is advisable to not do any kicks above your belt level if the coach has yet to teach you.

3. Take extra caution when doing any kicks not related to your current belt or above.

4. Always inform your SLs/welfare rep should you sustain any injuries during training.

Administration

1. All information will be disseminated via the HCTKD blog and your respective SLs

2. Please check the HCTKD blog regularly and reply to your SLs as promptly as possible

3. In the event you are unable to attend training/ will be late for training due to valid reasons, please tell any ExCo member, who shall report to the others

4. Please cooperate and pay up in due time for club funds / financial collection

5. Suggestions can be brought up via the HCTKD blog or any ExCo member

6. No food is supposed to be consumed in the HCTKD room

Should there be noone who wants to extend training after class is dismissed, please be reminded to help keep the mats and equipment as well. This is to split the work amongst everyone and not leave it to the same few people to do it everytime. Nonetheless, everyone is strongly encouraged to help the members on duty out!:)

Remember to bring:
- Full Gi (neatly ironed and hanged in a uniform cover if you have)
- Spare Gi pants (if you have to train in before the real event)
- Correct Belt with tape (find Aloysius/Priscilla if you have not taped your belts)
- Water bottle (fully filled)
- Some cash (for dinner :D)
- Slippers

Please note:
Attire
For Girls, please ensure that your hair is neat, bring black rubber bands/pins, gel/ hair spray if you need to. And remember to bring along a white shirt. For guys, please ensure that your hair is neat too!

Put on your Gi only when you're about to compete so that it still remains in a neat condition!
Also, as much as possible, dont walk around bare footed so that your feet dont get black. It's quite unsightly to let the judges see your black feet while you're doing your poomsae.

Remember to have ample rest and sleep well the night before. Have a good breakfast before you report to school! Also, you may want to consider coming to school earlier to warm up and stretch before we head to the sports hall. But please report punctually at AOA. We'll be taking attendance before we set off.

Supporters who are coming down later in the afternoon, please make you way down to Toa Payoh Sports Hall. Take 157 to Toa Payoh Bus Interchange and walk through the HDB hub, cross the overhead bridge and you should see the sports hall.

Exco elections sign up details

Dear J1s,

It's the time of the year for exco elections again!
Please refer to the following information with regards to the procedure to apply for a position in the 2010/11 Hwa Chong Taekwondo Exco. We welcome all interested J1s to run for Exco.

1) Application Process

An email with the application form attached will be sent to all J1s' email by 28/03/11. Please read through the details below before filling up the form. Upon completion, all J1s who are intending to run for Exco will be required to submit a hard copy to Carine (Secretary) when you see her during training. Additionally, a soft copy must be sent to hwachong.tkd@gmail.com.

*Submission of the forms must be done before 06/04/11, Wednesday. Late submissions WILL NOT be entertained.
If you have not received the application form by 28/03/11, you are to inform me as soon as possible via email (priscikeng@hotmail.com). More details on the election process will be released to the candidates after 06/04/11.

Applicants will go through a round of interview. Shortlisted candidates will be presenting a speech followed by a Q&A session from the current exco members and the floor. Dates of interview and speech will be disclosed later.

2) Description of Exco Positions

The HCTKD Exco comprises 10 members. The details of each roles are in the previous post. Please ensure that you understand the job scopes of the respective positions before you decide to run for it. Do also bear in mind your purpose and rationale for applying to become an Exco member. Should you need any assistance in understanding the roles of any Exco positions, feel free to approach the people whose names are listed under 'the hctkd family'.

We urge you to understand each role fully before applying for the role. One very important point to note is that being in the Exco requires your full commitment and you must be prepared to dedicate time and effort in the process. Hence, please run for Exco wisely.

The Exco consists of 10 positions, namely the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer,2 Training Coordinators, Welfare Representative/ Public Relations Officer (Merge), Quarter Master, and 2 Section Leaders.

President

The President of HCTKD club oversees all matters across every aspect in the club. Below are some of the important roles of the President:

Distribution of any executive committee work (on top of their respective duties) among executive committee members according to their strengths, and supervision of them whenever necessary.
Serving as the direct communication link between all members, the coach and the teacher/s-in-charge. It is the job of the President to update the teacher/s-in-charge, coach and members regarding any updates of the club promptly.
Being responsible for all actions carried out by the executive committee. He or she will be making the final decisions for the club whenever applicable.
In the absence of any executive committee members, the President will have to act accordingly to ensure that the job of that particular Exco member is done and the welfare of the club not jeopardized.
Planning of executive committee meetings regularly to reflect on the happenings in the club and to plan for upcoming events.
Ensuring that discipline is always maintained during trainings.
Keeping of proper records on events carried out in the course of his/her term as President.
The President should, at all times, be aware of the club's current standard and possibilities for progress. He or she is responsible for the performance of the club.

The priority of the President is to maintain the standard of the club - by ensuring that goals are set that allow for the club's improvement, that the executive committee carries out its duties accordingly, and that there is a consistent feedback loop with which the club's progress can be ascertained. Each step forward should be taken for the club's good - but of course, "good" can be redefined.

Vice President

The Vice-President, as the title suggests, is a sub-role of the President. This implies that he or she must be prepared at all times to take over certain tasks of the President whenever such circumstances arise and constantly share the President's burden. Some specific roles are as follows:

Assist President and other executive committee members whenever necessary, especially during major events such as Open House, CCA exhibition, CCA CIP etc.
Be ready to take on any responsibility or lead at all times.
Befriend club members.
Take charge of grading and grading card.
Communicate with and update teacher/s-in-charge about matters of the club (alongside the President) whenever necessary.

It must be noted that most of the time, jobs do not find their way to the Vice-President. Instead, he or she must be spontaneous and always offer to help the other Exco members. The Vice-President must also be approachable and sociable and most importantly, it is imperative that he or she be able to establish close bonds within the TKD club members, thereby creating indelible memories.

Secretary

This is a deceivingly simple job in the Exco. The secretary is expected to handle all administrative matters of the club, namely:

Overall attendance of all club members - the secretary has to work with section leaders to collate attendance every training. He or she is accountable for attendance and has to communicate with the teacher/s-in-charge regarding attendance regularly.
Membership of club members, especially during orientation period.
Contact information of club members - this includes basic and personal information.
Minutes of executive committee meetings

Inheriting all plans/minutes/attendance/information of the previous batches of HCTKD

On top of that, the secretary has to be the ultimate Know-It-All regarding matters of the club. He or she is expected to have all the compilations and information regarding every event in the club. As a result, the secretary also helps to helm/co-helm quite a number of the bigger events of the club and is the database for all Exco members to refer to.

Due to all these huge amounts of administrative work which involves interaction with club members, ideally, the secretary should be cool-headed, friendly and approachable as well.

Treasurer

The treasurer is in charge of all monetary matters regarding the club and is responsible for the TKD accounts at all times. The following are the duties of the treasure:

Collection of club fund from members once every term.
Registering club members for grading with the coach and collecting grading fee from all going for grading every three months.
Ordering TKD equipments such as the Gi, guards, planks etc
Managing the TKD account and safe-keeping all money
Ensuring that the account always has a healthy reserve of cash
Be in charge of all expenses or payments of the club
Reporting regularly to teacher/s-in-charge about the account and coming up with the budget.
Taking charge of any other miscellaneous fees for non-official events e.g. seniors' farewell, JTS etc

It should be noted that collection of money and forms will be assisted by the section leaders. However, the treasurer is the overall-in-charge and thus has to be a very responsible and accountable person who is logical, clear and rationale so as to be able to handle the money of the club wisely and most efficiently for the benefit of the club.

Training Coordinator

The fundamental pre-requisite for the training coordinator is to be adequately skilled in TKD, learning everything in his or her own time so as to teach others and plan trainings. He or she is the leader of the training committee and oversees trainings alongside the coach, assiting the coach in wherever is lacking. He or she must:

Liaise closely with the coach and plan for all trainings ahead of time.
Lead the training committee and be in charge of teaching section leaders.
Always be ready to lead training should the coach be unable to make it.
Be very skillful in all aspects of TKD (patterns, kicks, sparring, plank breaking etc).
Be motivational to other club members in inspiring them to train.
Be hardworking and able to control large hordes of peers.

In short, the Training Coordinator has to put in extra effort to know and perfect all TKD moves, and is able to connect with members and teach well. He or she is accountable for the standard of the club and should always seek to improve all club members skills and maximize the club to its fullest potential.

Quarter Master

The Quarter Master has to take care of the TKD Room, including all the training equipments and any property of HCTKD. Administrative work also has to be done to keep a record of all property in the TKD room. Here are what he or she has to do:

Ensure mats, targets, paddings, the first aid kit and other necessary equipments are brought down before every training, with the help of club members.
Ensure all items brought down for training are returned to the TKD room in proper condition after training and keep the room securely locked.
Air the paddings regularly, at least once a week to prevent them from smelling and air-dry the mats if they get wet.
Clean the mats if they get dirty, with help from others.
Keep the TKD room in a neat and tidy fashion at all times, cleaning the room whenever necessary.
Be in charge of spring cleaning of TKD room.
Keep an account of new equipment purchased, lost, spoiled or used (for planks).
Be in charge of stocktaking every year.
Order new planks, together with the treasurer.

Thus, the Quarter Master should be responsible, willing, neat and orderly.

Public Relations Officer cum Welfare Rep

The Public Relations Officer is in charge of all external events of the club, as well as public communications, the TKD shirt and team items. He or she should be the database of all videos and pictures of the club to be passed down from generation to generation. The Public Relations Officer should be friendly, enthusiastic, organized, fluent and outgoing to be best suited for the role. The Public Relations Officer is in charge of:

Updating the TKD Notice Board with information of regular and holiday trainings
Open House and CCA Orientation - organizing it with Exco and in charge of all forms of publicity including banner, posters, flyers, CCA public performance and CCA booth.
TKD Shirt - making a new one every year for the club
TKD Blog - updating it regularly and whenever needed to keep members well-informed of events.
Acquiring and keeping pictures and videos of club members, competition patterns etc for future reference.
Team items - any common item for own batch of members.
Media in general - printing plaques of appreciation, notices, cameras to take pictures and videos during events especially during competition, Exco form for the following year's elections.

As a Welfare Representative, he or she must look after the general welfare of club members during training, especially when the coach and teacher/s-in-charge are not around. He or she has total control over the first aid kit and has to ensure that it is not misused and restock it whenever necessary. It will be good for the welfare representative to know first aid. General duties include:

Paying close attention to the actions of every member; he or she must not be oblivious to the safety of club members.
Providing appropriate medical care should any member be injured or any accident occur and know where to seek help if the situation is too serious.
Having proper contacts at hand at all times, including and not restricted to those of teacher/s-in-charge, coaches, ambulance, fire brigade, police etc.
Keeping the first aid kit constantly well-equipped in case anything happens. The first aid kit may include the following:

adhesive tapes, alcohol wipes, antacid, antibiotic ointment, charcoal pills, cotton swabs, diarrhea medication, disinfectant cream e.g. Dettol, elastic bandages, gauze pads of various sizes, hypoallergenic tape, needles, non-adhesive dressings, over-the-counter pain medication e.g. aspirin, paper and pencil, paper drinking cups, plasters of assorted sizes, self-adhering roller gauze, safety pins, scissors, smelling salts, oral and rectal thermometer, triangular bandages, tweezers, waterproof tape.

Section Leader

The section leader's job is split into two aspects, administrative and training. He or she has to facilitate administrative procedures, sharing the treasurer and secretary's burdens and are also required to possess a certain level of skill in TKD so as to help the training coordinator in carrying out training for the club.

Administrative:

Collection of any money and forms from own section.
Taking section's attendance before and after every training.
Disseminating notices to members in each's own section to inform them of any updates, usually after training or through the form of smses.

Training:

Default member of training committe, working with the training coordinator to conduct training, especially in the absence of the coach.
Self-practise and learn tkd skills from training coordinator so as to facilitate training their members.
Monitor progress of own section.
In charge of own section's standard in TKD.

In short, the section leader has be in charge of the specific administrative work of his or her own section, reporting back to the secretary and treasurer as quickly as possible as well as be responsible for the section members' tkd standard, ensuring improvement in skills.

Below is a short introduction to

Nation A Division Taekwondo Championships 2011

Competition Format
Poomsae

•For the competition in each category to be carried out there must be a minimum of 3 performers or 3 teams from 3 different schools in the colourcategory.

•The cut-off system shall be used for the competition – for example, if there are 20 performers in the category, 50% will be eliminated in the preliminary rounds for the semi-finals and 8 will be selected for the finals.

•The number will be more if there are equal scores (For example, if there are more than one performer sharing the same score for the 8th position, all the performers will move to the finals) or the number of performers in the category is odd (For example, if there are 25 performers, 13 will be selected for the next round).

•If there is a tie for any of the top four positions, the performers will have to compete again to break the tie.

Awards
Medals will be awarded to gold medalist, silver medalist and two bronze medalists in each category.

Trophies will be awarded to the top two schools if there are 3 participating schools; the top three schools, if there are 4 participating schools; and the top four schools if there are 5 or more participating schools in each Division for male and female categories based on the total points collected for both the kyorugi and poomsae competitions.

The following point system shall apply:

•9 points for each gold medal won

•4 points for each silver medal won

•1 point for each bronze medal won

•1 additional point for every match won in the kyorugi competition

•1 additional point for finishing among the top eight in the poomsae

competition

Prize recipients shall collect their prizes either in their school track suits or taekwondo uniform.

Points from all Male events (12 EVENTS) will be accumulated to determine overall Best School for Male events a.k.a A Boys CHAMPION.
Points from all Female events (12 EVENTS) will be accumulated to determine overall Best School for Female events a.k.a A Girls CHAMPION.

Scoring system
There will be 5 judges, 3 in front, 2 behind.
Everyone starts with 10 points (5 for accuracy, 5 for presentation).
Each minor mistake (stances, redundant feet movement, etc.) the judge spots, minus 0.1 from the accuracy points.
Each major mistake (never shout, do wrong move, kicks more than 1 fist above head level etc) minus 0.5 from accuracy.
Presentation marks will comprise the overall impression given to the judge which largely hinges on the height of kicks and the overall feeling.
On the scoreboard are 2 rows, the above one for accuracy and the bottom one for presentation. Once you are done, each judge will submit their score resulting in 5 sets of data for both criteria. The highest and lowest will be cancelled and the average of the other 3 scores will be taken into account.

Don't be surprised if you see figures to 3 decimal places and 0.1 difference between gold/silver/bronze winners. This shows the importance of perfecting each stance such that little marks will be deducted.

Juniors in eejang, pls watch the youtube video to familiarise yourself with the steps and general movements. There is no prelim pattern video on youtube though. (View the other video for your own interest and pleasure) In any case, the seniors will be teaching you the steps tomorrow. Thereafter, you're expected to know every step. This is to ensure you do not waste time memorizing steps which should be used to corrects on focus on details. It will be difficult to memorise steps and concentrate on the details because you'll forgot after a while. The seniors will be guiding you along with the specifics (stances, blocks, kicks, punches etc). Please take the initiative to approach the seniors if you have any queries.

NTU Taekwondo Open Championship (TOC), formerly known as NTU Taekwondo Invitational Championship, is an annual inter-varsity-polytechnic (IVP) competition organized by NTU Taekwondo Club. The championship, a highly anticipated event among the tertiary institutions, has over the years expanded to include participation from the Junior Colleges. This year’s championship saw a record 17 participating institutions from 8 junior colleges, 4 polytechnics, 4 universities and the ITE.

The NTU Taekwondo Open Champion 2009; jointly organized by NTU TKD and Singapore Taekwondo Federation with generous support from our main sponsor, Ting Fong; was a roaring success. The 3 day event, which was held from 27th February to 1st March 2009, saw no lack of breathtaking kicks and punches in both the pattern and sparring arena.

37^th National Taekwondo Kyorugi Championships
The 37^th National Taekwondo Kyorugi Championships will be on 4th & 5th September 2010 (Saturday and Sunday) and 11th & 12th September 2010 (Saturday and Sunday) at Yishun Sports Hall.

For this Saturday (4th Sept) 1.45pm to 8.00pm, the Young Junior 1 Division will be competing.
For this Sunday (5th Sept) 9.45am to 8.00pm, the Young Junior 2 Division, Senior 1 Division and Senior 2 Deivision will be competing.

The elections for the Hwa Chong Taekwondo EXCO will be held on 5th May from 4:30pm to 7:00pm at LT2. Candidates will be required to give a 1 minute speech to all club members (J1 and J2). Following that, questions from the audience and/or the present EXCO will be posed to the candidates.

Each candidate will be allocated 5 minutes for the speech and Q&A session. When everyone has had the opportunity to convince the club members about their rationale to join the EXCO 2010/11, a voting slip will be provided for all members to vote for the candidates whom they deem are suitable to be part of the EXCO.

1) No earrings (super small ear studs also not allowed)
2) Cut your finger nails and toe nails
3) Make sure your belt is tipped (can look for me (yi ling) to tape your belt )
4) DO NOT BE LATE!!!!!!
5) Bring full gi (gi top, gi pants and belt) (make sure it is clean and not too crumpled and don't forget to bring any part of it )
6) Wear a white shirt inside (for girls)
7) Pin up and tie up your hair (for girls) and neat hair (guys)
8) Bring guards if you need to spar (green belt and above)

9) Simple hair accessories (black pins but simple coloured rubber bands are allowed)

Elections 2010

Hello J1s,

Please refer to the following information with regards to the procedure to apply for a position in the 2010/11 Hwa Chong Taekwondo Exco. We welcome all J1s who are interested to run for Exco.

1) Application Process

An email with the application form attached will be sent to all J1s' email by 27/03/10. Please read through the details below before filling up the form. Upon completion, all J1s who are intending to run for Exco will be required to submit a hard copy to Wei Jing (Secretary) when you see him during training. Additionally, a soft copy must be sent to hwachong.tkd@gmail.com.

*Submission of the forms must be done before 09/04/10, Friday. Late submissions WILL NOT be entertained.

If you have not received the application form by 27/03/10, you are to inform me as soon as possible via email (bertram_lim@hotmail.com). More details on the election process will be released to the candidates after 9/4/10.

2) Description of Exco Positions

The HCTKD Exco comprises 11 members. Please ensure that you understand the job scopes of the respective positions before you decide to run for it. Do also bear in mind your purpose and rationale for applying to become an Exco member. Should you need any assistance in understanding the roles of any Exco positions, feel free to approach the people whose names are listed on the left column of this blog.

President

The President of HCTKD club oversees all matters across every aspect in the club. Below are some of the important roles of the President:

Distribution of any executive committee work (on top of their respective duties) among executive committee members according to their strengths, and supervision of them whenever necessary.
Serving as the direct communication link between all members, the coach and the teacher/s-in-charge. It is the job of the President to update the teacher/s-in-charge, coach and members regarding any updates of the club promptly.
Being responsible for all actions carried out by the executive committee. He or she will be making the final decisions for the club whenever applicable.
In the absence of any executive committee members, the President will have to act accordingly to ensure that the job of that particular Exco member is done and the welfare of the club not jeopardized.
Planning of executive committee meetings regularly to reflect on the happenings in the club and to plan for upcoming events.
Ensuring that discipline is always maintained during trainings.
Keeping of proper records on events carried out in the course of his/her term as President.
The President should, at all times, be aware of the club's current standard and possibilities for progress. He or she is responsible for the performance of the club.

The priority of the President is to maintain the standard of the club - by ensuring that goals are set that allow for the club's improvement, that the executive committee carries out its duties accordingly, and that there is a consistent feedback loop with which the club's progress can be ascertained. Each step forward should be taken for the club's good - but of course, "good" can be redefined.

Vice President

The Vice-President, as the title suggests, is a sub-role of the President. This implies that he or she must be prepared at all times to take over certain tasks of the President whenever such circumstances arise and constantly share the President's burden. Some specific roles are as follows:

Assist President and other executive committee members whenever necessary, especially during major events such as Open House, CCA exhibition, CCA CIP etc.
Be ready to take on any responsibility or lead at all times.
Befriend club members.
Take charge of grading and grading card.
Communicate with and update teacher/s-in-charge about matters of the club (alongside the President) whenever necessary.

It must be noted that most of the time, jobs do not find their way to the Vice-President. Instead, he or she must be spontaneous and always offer to help the other Exco members. The Vice-President must also be approachable and sociable and most importantly, it is imperative that he or she be able to establish close bonds within the TKD club members, thereby creating indelible memories.

Secretary

This is a deceivingly simple job in the Exco. The secretary is expected to handle all administrative matters of the club, namely:

Overall attendance of all club members - the secretary has to work with section leaders to collate attendance every training. He or she is accountable for attendance and has to communicate with the teacher/s-in-charge regarding attendance regularly.
Membership of club members, especially during orientation period.
Contact information of club members - this includes basic and personal information.
Minutes of executive committee meetings
Club Forms
All other administrative work
Inheriting all plans/minutes/attendance/information of the previous batches of HCTKD

On top of that, the secretary has to be the ultimate Know-It-All regarding matters of the club. He or she is expected to have all the compilations and information regarding every event in the club. As a result, the secretary also helps to helm/co-helm quite a number of the bigger events of the club and is the database for all Exco members to refer to.

Due to all these huge amounts of administrative work which involves interaction with club members, ideally, the secretary should be cool-headed, friendly and approachable as well.

Treasurer

The treasurer is in charge of all monetary matters regarding the club and is responsible for the TKD accounts at all times. The following are the duties of the treasure:

Collection of club fund from members once every term.
Registering club members for grading with the coach and collecting grading fee from all going for grading every three months.
Ordering TKD equipments such as the Gi, guards, planks etc
Managing the TKD account and safe-keeping all money
Ensuring that the account always has a healthy reserve of cash
Be in charge of all expenses or payments of the club
Reporting regularly to teacher/s-in-charge about the account and coming up with the budget.
Taking charge of any other miscellaneous fees for non-official events e.g. seniors' farewell, JTS etc

Training Coordinator (Male and Female)

The fundamental pre-requisite for the training coordinator is to be adequately skilled in TKD, learning everything in his or her own time so as to teach others and plan trainings. He or she is the leader of the training committee and oversees trainings alongside the coach, assiting the coach in wherever is lacking. He or she must:

Liaise closely with the coach and plan for all trainings ahead of time.
Lead the training committee and be in charge of teaching section leaders.
Always be ready to lead training should the coach be unable to make it.
Be very skillful in all aspects of TKD (patterns, kicks, sparring, plank breaking etc).
Be motivational to other club members in inspiring them to train.
Be hardworking and able to control large hordes of peers.

In short, the Training Coordinator has to put in extra effort to know and perfect all TKD moves, and is able to connect with members and teach well. He or she is accountable for the standard of the club and should always seek to improve all club members skills and maximize the club to its fullest potential.

Welfare Representative

The Welfare Representative must look after the general welfare of club members during training, especially when the coach and teacher/s-in-charge are not around. He or she has total control over the first aid kit and has to ensure that it is not misused and restock it whenever necessary. It will be good for the welfare representative to know first aid. General duties include:

Paying close attention to the actions of every member; he or she must not be oblivious to the safety of club members.
Providing appropriate medical care should any member be injured or any accident occur and know where to seek help if the situation is too serious.
Having proper contacts at hand at all times, including and not restricted to those of teacher/s-in-charge, coaches, ambulance, fire brigade, police etc.
Keeping the first aid kit constantly well-equipped in case anything happens. The first aid kit may include the following:

adhesive tapes, alcohol wipes, antacid, antibiotic ointment, charcoal pills, cotton swabs, diarrhea medication, disinfectant cream e.g. Dettol, elastic bandages, gauze pads of various sizes, hypoallergenic tape, needles, non-adhesive dressings, over-the-counter pain medication e.g. aspirin, paper and pencil, paper drinking cups, plasters of assorted sizes, self-adhering roller gauze, safety pins, scissors, smelling salts, oral and rectal thermometer, triangular bandages, tweezers, waterproof tape.

In addition, the Welfare Representative is in charge of organizing events and activities to bond the club, such as birthdays, outings etc and promote attendance for such events. It will be good for the him or her to continue the club's traditions such as the tkd club's birthday and start new ones to make the club a more homely place. He or she is also in charge of organizing at least 1 CCA CIP in his or her term to allow club members to give back to the society, such as through selling items to fund a cause, performing, conducting self-defense courses etc.

The Welfare Representative should also be constantly aware of the needs of the club members and get feedback from members regularly, striving to make the club a happier place to train in.

Quarter Master

The Quarter Master has to take care of the TKD Room, including all the training equipments and any property of HCTKD. Administrative work also has to be done to keep a record of all property in the TKD room. Here are what he or she has to do:

Ensure mats, targets, paddings, the first aid kit and other necessary equipments are brought down before every training, with the help of club members.
Ensure all items brought down for training are returned to the TKD room in proper condition after training and keep the room securely locked.
Air the paddings regularly, at least once a week to prevent them from smelling and air-dry the mats if they get wet.
Clean the mats if they get dirty, with help from others.
Keep the TKD room in a neat and tidy fashion at all times, cleaning the room whenever necessary.
Be in charge of spring cleaning of TKD room.
Keep an account of new equipment purchased, lost, spoiled or used (for planks).
Be in charge of stocktaking every year.
Order new planks, together with the treasurer.

Thus, the Quarter Master should be responsible, willing, neat and orderly.

Public Relations Officer

The Public Relations Officer is in charge of all external events of the club, as well as public communications, the TKD shirt and team items. He or she should be the database of all videos and pictures of the club to be passed down from generation to generation. The Public Relations Officer is in charge of:

Updating the TKD Notice Board with information of regular and holiday trainings
Open House and CCA Orientation - organizing it with Exco and in charge of all forms of publicity including banner, posters, flyers, CCA public performance and CCA booth.
TKD Shirt - making a new one every year for the club
TKD Blog - updating it regularly and whenever needed to keep members well-informed of events.
Acquiring and keeping pictures and videos of club members, competition patterns etc for future reference.
Team items - any common item for own batch of members.
Media in general - printing plaques of appreciation, notices, cameras to take pictures and videos during events especially during competition, Exco form for the following year's elections.

The job scope of the Public Relations Officer sometimes overlaps with the Welfare Representative and both should work together to ensure good communication internally and externally and actively bond the club. The Public Relations Officer should be friendly, enthusiastic, organized, fluent and outgoing to be best suited for the role.

Section Leader (x2)

The section leader's job is split into two aspects, administrative and training. He or she has to facilitate administrative procedures, sharing the treasurer and secretary's burdens and are also required to possess a certain level of skill in TKD so as to help the training coordinator in carrying out training for the club.

Administrative:

Collection of any money and forms from own section.
Taking section's attendance before and after every training.
Disseminating notices to members in each's own section to inform them of any updates, usually after training or through the form of smses.

Training:

Default member of training committe, working with the training coordinator to conduct training, especially in the absence of the coach.
Self-practise and learn tkd skills from training coordinator so as to facilitate training their members.
Monitor progress of own section.
In charge of own section's standard in TKD.

All of us will be the facilitators for the event and will teach the participants the various self defense techniques.

A senior will be coming down to teach us the self defense techniques on every Wednesday (during CCA) before the 20th of February 2010.

There will also be training sessions for self defense course every Friday after CCA. Please try to stay back and practice as much as possible. =)

Please do take note that all facilitators will need to attend all the sessions and an assessment will be conducted before the actual event to assess each facilitator (eh...it is just to check if you know your stuff well enough =) because it is our responsibility to teach the participants the correct stuff!)

If you are unable to come for any of the sessions, please inform me as soon as possible so that I can arrange a date for you to learn the techniques.

Please note that if a facilitator is unable to come for many sessions and did not inform me, he or she will not be allowed to participate in the actual event.

IMPORTANT!

-All facilitators need to go into the ISP (under service learning and CIP) and join the event. The event should be open for registration on Friday night (but maybe will be later-depends on how fast the event is approved) and it will be closed next wed night)

-All facilitators must be responsible enough to attend as many sessions as possible.

-Look for me and you SLs before the start of every session so that we can take your attendance. (You are required to sign on the attendance sheet after each session)

-CIP hours will be awarded to all facilitators (depends on how many trainings you attend)

For those who are still unsure of their pattern and the basic kicks, please come for the official training on Friday. If you cannot come for the training on Friday, you can approach anyone of us =D Please try not to be late so that you will have more time to train your own pattern. And if possible, we would appreciate if you guys can help us carry down the mats on Friday. =D

Here are some of the things to take note for grading =D
1) No earrings (super small ear studs also not allowed)
2) Cut your finger nails and toe nails
3) Make sure your belt is tipped (can look for me (yi ling) to tape your belt =D)
4) DO NOT BE LATE!!!!!!
5) Bring full gi (gi top, gi pants and belt) (make sure it is clean and not too crumpled and don't forget to bring any part of it =D)
6) Wear a white shirt inside (for girls)
7) Pin up and tie up your hair (for girls) and neat hair (guys)
8) Bring guards if you need to spar

The schedule for our performance on 13 Jan is out.

Please note that there have been some changes to the time with regards to the one I told you all earlier. We will be performing twice, at 12pm and 3pm. It is not 4pm.
